These are the 1969 film version of Shirley Jackson’s short story, The Lottery. A community of people in a small village follows an annual ritual known as "the Lottery". The tradition is believed to ensure a good harvest, yet evokes dread in the entire town's people. 

 

Base to the short story, The Lottery was produced as an audio movie broadcasted through the ‘NBC Presents: Short Story’, a half-hour radio program offering dramatizations of contemporary American short stories, from Hollywood radio channel in 1951.
